Burt Munro Week
Burt Munro week once again brought a huge buzz to Invercargill, with riders and spectators travelling from across the country to be part of this iconic event. Beach race day drew significant crowds to Oreti, creating one of the busiest days we’ve seen on the sand this season.
During the event, Oreti Beach recorded the highest peak head count of the entire week across all monitored beaches in New Zealand. Our attendance figures are calculated using the standard method of cars multiplied by three occupants, with motorbikes counted as one person each. That peak number reflects just how substantial the turnout was and the scale of activity on our coastline.
While we were not directly involved in running the event, our patrol operated alongside it to ensure the beach remained safe for all users. Increased vehicle traffic and spectator numbers always bring added risk, and our presence helped maintain visibility, prevention, and public safety throughout the day. It was a strong operational effort during one of the region’s most high-profile weeks.
