Junior Surf

Oreti Junior Surf is a fun and practical way for children aged 7–13 years to build confidence, develop beach and water safety skills, make new friends and become part of Surf Life Saving.

Our Nippers take part in a range of activities both on the beach and in the water, from running and beach activities to swimming and paddle boarding. Along the way, they develop the skills and knowledge that can eventually lead them into lifeguarding and surf sports.

How Junior Surf Works

Our Junior Surf programme has six structured levels of theory and practical skills for children aged 7–13, allowing members to develop as they progress through the programme.

At age 13, members can take part in our Rookie Lifeguard programme, giving them an introduction to patrols and the opportunity to become involved with senior lifeguard training as they prepare to progress into lifesaving.

Children joining Junior Surf must be able to comfortably swim 20 metres freestyle with good breathing technique.

Joining Junior Surf

Nipper membership is available for children aged 7–13 years, based on their age as at 30 September.

Existing members will be contacted before each season with information about re-registering, while new members can register through our Join Us page.
